Historians believed that the French Revolution was the turning point in the history of European nationalism. The French Revolution changed the way that France was shaped. The people of France executed the king and transformed France from an absolute monarchy to a republic.
After the French revolution, the people changed their way of thinking. Instead of following the king, they put their loyalties on the idea of themselves as a nation. The French Revolution shows how nationalism can be based on external factors. These factors are historical, social, economic, geographic, and political. All these factors built up and combined to create a sense of nation which left a huge mark on France and other European countries. These factors led to the development of French nationalism.
